Pakistan receives highest award for controlling tuberculosis

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan has received highest international award for controlling tuberculosis.

The medal was awarded to Dr Razia Fatima from Pakistan and Jane Carter from the US for their efforts to control the disease. The medal was awarded on Tuesday at a ceremony in Bali, Indonesia on the occasion of World Conference in front of thousands of professionals and scientists. Dr Razia was chief research and National Coordinator of the Common Management Unit (CMU) which deals with tuberculosis.

The award to Dr Razia is the first of its kind for a Pakistani national. She has also been selected to chair the TB section of international union of tuberculosis.

The award was celebrated by the scientific community and Pakistanis in Indonesia.
