PPP bags seven of 10 seats
KARACHI: The ruling Pakistan Peoples Party swept the by-election as it won seven out of 10 local government seats in different districts of Karachi.
According to unofficial and unconfirmed results, the PPP won all three union committee (UC) chairmen, one vice-chairman and three general councillor seats.
The Jamaat-i-Islami emerged victorious on two seats — a UC vice-chairman and a general councillor. The result of one seat is yet to be announced.
Candidates backed by the opposition Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf have failed to win any seat in the metropolis. Officials said voter turnout in the metropolis ranges between 3 per cent and 15pc.
