Police told to ensure implementation of key performance indicators

RAWALPINDI: The superintendent of police Rawal Division has directed SDPOs and SHOs to ensure the implementation of key performance indicators (KPIs) in line with the new mechanism introduced by Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz to evaluate the police working.

A considerable increase in crime had been noticed in the Rawal Division in the last two weeks, especially in Sadiqabad, New Town and Banni police areas that remained on top of the list of crime-affected localities.

The KPIs included the number of FIRs, crime control efforts, improvement in investigation of cases, action against drug suppliers, law and order situation, protection of women and vulnerable groups, complaint handling and accessibility to public, security, public service delivery and special initiatives.

According to sources, the superintendent of police Rawal Division while referring to a recently held meeting directed the DSPOs and SHOs to personally check the security of Chinese nationals either working or residing in their respective areas and to immediately remove the loopholes, if any.

DSPOs and SHOs also ordered to personally check security of Chinese nationals and remove loopholes

He also directed them to keep a stock of weapons, ammunition, bulletproof jackets, helmets and other tools to ensure their safety in the police station.

In addition to ensuring the stock of weapons and other tools, the police have been directed to keep the main gate of each police station closed. Checking of visitors and deployment of guards at the main gates and rooftop of police stations should also been ensured.

He also directed the police to ensure the implementation of SOPs of security of all institutions, including banks, located in their respective jurisdictions.

The SP Rawalpindi Division emphasised the need for improving KPIs and arresting criminals. He warned that complaints of mistreatment and corruption will not be tolerated.

Vehicle theft, especially of motorcycles, has been increasing day by day in the garrison city. The SP directed the police that car and motorcycle theft should be checked.

He expressed concern over the sharp increase in crime in the Rawal Division during the past two weeks and directed the police to chalk out a comprehensive strategy to combat it. KPIs can help law enforcement agencies improve their policies, increase transparency, and build trust with the community.

Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz had for the first time introduced a detailed mechanism to evaluate the performance of the supervisory police officers serving across the province, including regional police offices (RPOs) and district police officers (DPOs).

For this purpose, the CM had introduced 36 KPIs that would serve as assessable measures of performance and progress towards achieving specific objectives.
