BAHAWALPUR: Multan Saddar police have arrested four of their own officials and a car showroom owner for their alleged involvement in counterfeit currency trade and implicating a man in a fabricated case.

According to police sources, the arrested police officials include an Assistant Sub Inspector, Haq Nawaz, constables Muddasar, Zeeshan and Faisal, while the car showroom owner was identified as Rizwan.

As per the complainant, Muhammad Aslam, a resident of Dera Ghazi Khan, his servant went to to the showroom of Rizwan, to sell his (Aslam’s) car.

He alleged that at the showroom, Rizwan and the four policemen made his servant hostage, put fake currency in his pocket and threatened to implicate him in a case if he did not greased their palms.

On being informed of the episode, Aslam got a case registered against the policemen and the showroom owner with Saddar police.

The police, during investigation, found the complaint was factual and the suspects were also involved in fake currency business.

The police arrested the suspects and produced them in a court, which sent them to jail on judicial remand.

DEMOLISHED: The Vehari district administration on Wednesday demolished an illegal unit for causing air pollution and making counterfeit fuel oil by melting used tyres at Chak 515/EB near Burewala city.

According to a handout, Deputy Commissioner (DC) Ms Imrana Tauqeer was informed that an illegal unit was functioning in the village and was a main source of hazardous emissions, endangering lives of the area residents.

The DC assigned the task of demolishing the unit to Burewala Assistance Commissioner Malik Farooque Ahmed, who with the help of heavy machinery got the illegal structures demolished. On the orders of the AC, police also arrested the unit owner and manager, registering an FIR against them.

Officials say the unit was being run for around four years without any official permission and was sealed earlier. However, it was bought by another party and became functional again a few days ago.

WOMAN KILLED: A woman was allegedly killed by her drug addict husband at 11-South village near Budhla Sunnat in the suburbs of Multan city.

According to police, accused Riaz, a car driver, was a drug addict and would frequently quarrel with his wife, Allah Rakhi (34).

On Wednesday, during a quarrel, Riaz allegedly tortured his wife to death and fled away.

The police registered a murder case against the suspect and shifted the woman’s body to the Civil Hospital for the postmortem examination.

ACCIDENT: According to police and Rescue 1122, a student identified as Khubaib (16) got critically injured when his motorcyclist collided with another bike near Rind Jada Mor at Kahror Pacca in Lodhran district.

The rescuers rushed the injured person to the local THQ hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.

TODDLER DIES: A two-and-a-half years old toddler, Mubashir, allegedly drowned after falling into an uncovered manhole outside his house in Naseerabad Colony in Bahawalpur city.

A Rescue 1122 team, called by the locals, retrieved the body and handed it over to the child’s parents.

GIRL FEARED DROWNED: A mentally challenged girl, Abida (15), is feared to have drowned drowned in Mailsi Link Canal near Chak No 24, Kando Shaheed in Khairpur Tamewali.

A Rescue 1122 team, responding to an emergency call, reached the spot and launched an operation to find the girl. The operation had to be abandoned because of poor visibility after sunset. The rescuers will resume the search on Thursday morning.

SUCCUMBS TO INJURIES: A man, who was allegedly run over by a car, succumbed to his wounds at the Bahawal Victoria Hospital (BVH), Bahawalpur.

Identified as Allah Wasya, the man was shifted to the hospital, along with his injured nephew, Bashir, in a precarious condition on Tuesday night.

As per hospital staff, both were knocked down by a speeding car near Lodhran.

The unidentified car driver managed to flee, against whom Lodhran police have registered a case.
