Wasa bans car washing to conserve water
RAWALPINDI: Water and Sanitation Agency (Wasa) has imposed a ban on washing of cars at home and in commercial areas to avoid wastage of water.
According to a notification, Wasa Deputy Managing Director Engineering Zeeshan Shaukat Gondal said the authority would impose fines on violators.
He said on the first violation a fine of Rs10,000 will be imposed on domestic connection and Rs20,000 on commercial consumer, adding that in case of second violation water connection will be disconnected.
On the directions of Lahore High Court, Wasa spokesman said the civic agency had planned a comprehensive strategy for water conservation to stop misuse of water.
He said the authority would ensure strict compliance with the office order, adding that water was life and a basic need for the survival of human life.
Mr Gondal said due to climate change and other factors, most parts of the world are facing severe water crisis, adding that “Rawalpindi city is also facing water shortage due to excessive draw down of water and drastic ground water depletion”.
“Wasa is trying hard to manage water supply distribution in Rawalpindi City,” he said.
The deputy managing director Wasa also appealed to the public to stop misuse of water and cooperate with the civic agency to implement the Lahore High Court’s orders in true letter and spirit.
