Bajaur elders body restricts people’s movement at night
BAJAUR: The Bajaur Peace Action Committee, a body of elders and political activists, on Wednesday restricted the unnecessary movement of residents after 9pm across the district owing to the prevailing law and order situation in the region.
The committee met at the Jirga Hall in Civil Colony, Khar.
PML-N district president Malik Gul Kareem Khan, PPP leader Sayed Akhunzada Chattan, JI deputy chief Haji Sardar Khan, Sheikh Janzada and Shah Naseer Khan of ANP, Malik Shaheen Khan, Khar traders’ association president Wajid Ali Shah and Sadiqabad trade union president Haji Akbar Jan were also in attendance
The participants said the measure was imperative to curb the anti-peace and anti-social activities in the region.
Later briefing the media about the decisions, Mr Kareem, who is also the spokesman of the committee, said it was also decided during the meeting that the police would not register FIR of any murder that took place after 9pm across the region.
Highlighting the significance of the decision, the PML-N leader said that such measures were meant to help prevent the incidence of targeted killing, thefts and robberies, which often took place during the night.
“Such steps are critical to protect the lives of people,” he said.
“These steps have been taken just for the larger good of the people. So, we request the people to abide by the decision,” he added.
To a question, he said that the decisions would take effect from Thursday (today), asking citizens to ensure that their children didn’t venture out of houses after 9pm.
Mr Kareem said that it was also decided that members of the peace action committee would ensure their active participation in the Malakand jirga to be held in Swat on December 8.
