CJP Afridi okays request for early fixing of bail pleas filed in SC

ISLAMABAD: Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Yahya Afridi on Monday conceded early fixing of all types of bail applications soon after their filing in the Supreme Court.

The decision was taken at a meeting between President of the Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) Mian Muhammad Rauf Atta, accompanied by General Secretary Salman Mansoor, with the CJP to discuss challenges faced by the legal fraternity in ensuring efficient dispensation of justice at the Supreme Court.

The CJP also allowed a request for restoration of chamber hearing of cases with regard to interim applications and stay matters.

Following the SCBA leadership’s request, the CJP agreed to increase the number of judges assigned to chamber appeals to further expedite the process.

The CJP also acceded to the request by SCBA that all applications requesting a video link would be entertained on the same day of the hearing of cases in the respective registries.

Regarding timely provision of certified copies, the CJP outlined that the system is being revamped and a digitisation plan is under way to streamline operations and improve service delivery.

In response to concerns about file tracking and accessibility, the CJP desired that all advocates should provide their designated emails and WhatsApp numbers in the office so that the provisions of filing petitions directly online and issuance of certified copies and notices, be expedited.

The SCBA leaders expressed appreciation for these proactive measures and reaffirmed their support for initiatives to improve the efficiency of the justice system.
