From The Past Pages Of Dawn: 1949: Seventy-five years ago: Traders urged to invest

KARACHI: Appreciating the desire of Pakistan’s business community to make the country prosperous, Prime Minister Liaquat Ali Khan said on Friday [Dec 2] evening that the one and only aim of his Government was to improve the lot of the common man and to make Pakistan strong. He exhorted members of the trade not to stop at thinking but to get on with the job of promoting Pakistan’s prosperity. He asked them to emulate the example of those who had invested their capital in industry and to impose the good standards of business of the majority of their community on the defaulters.

Referring to the neighbouring Dominion, the Prime Minister said: “My Government have met the challenge from India. Our more solid virtues will carry conviction with the world and prevail. We always mean what we say. Our decisions have been taken in good faith on commercial and economic considerations, and they will be maintained with consistency and vigour.” The [PM] was replying to the address of Mr G.
