GUJRANWALA: The Kamoke Saddar police on Tuesday registered a case against 75 people, including women, for attacking an Anti-Corruption Establishment (ACE) team and freeing a suspect involved in a Rs170 million wheat fraud case.

The ACE team, led by circle officers Aftab Haider and Nisar Ahmed, raided Chak Lakhia to arrest Abdul Shakoor, a Food Department employee accused of creating fake authorities and fraudulently selling wheat in collusion with officials at the Nowshera Virkan procurement centre.

During the raid, the team managed to arrest Shakoor, but dozens of his accomplices attacked the officers and facilitated his escape. The suspects reportedly included men and women from the local area.

A case was filed at Saddar police station on the complaint of Mr Haider.

The FIR names 30 identified people, including men and women, along with 30 unidentified men and 15 unidentified women.

Those named include Rafiqat, Razaq, Ashraf and others, with female suspects Kausar Bibi, Faiza Bibi, and Saira Bibi.

Suspect Abdul Shakoor is accused of defrauding over Rs170 million by selling wheat through forged documentation.

The ACE had previously registered cases against Shakoor and several officials from the Food Department.

Efforts are underway to re-arrest the suspect and ensure justice is served. Investigations into the attack and fraud case continue.
