Six kidnapped labourers rescued in Nushki

QUETTA: Six labourers, abducted from Nushki district last week, were rescued by law enforcement agencies on Thursday.

The workers were kidnapped by unknown armed men on Nov 28 from the Zarin Jungle area, where they were working at an under-construction dam site.

The armed assailants also set fire to machinery and other construction equipment.

Following a tip-off about the presence of the kidnapped labourers in the area, Levies and other security personnel launched a search operation.

Levies officials said the six abducted labourers were successfully rescued after the operation.

They were identified as Zahoor Ahmed, Bismillah and Gaje from Quetta; Nasir Baloch from Mastung; and Hooradin and Sherullah from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

The rescued workers were later handed over to the Nushki administration, and further investigations are underway.

It is worth mentioning that more than 10 armed individuals attacked a Levies check post and the construction site of Gandari Dam in the Zarin Jungle area, located on the Kharaan-Nushki highway last month. Six people were abducted during that attack.

According to security sources, the armed assailants blocked the highway, seized three rifles and other equipment from the Levies personnel at the checkpoint, and then attacked the construction camp, setting it on fire and abducting over six workers.

The assailants also took away a pickup truck from the camp.
