Vehari rapist gets life term, Rs0.3m fine
BAHAWALPUR: Vehari Additional Sessions Judge Muhammad Yasar Hayat on Friday handed down life term, along with a Rs0.3 million fine to a man in a rape case registered with Machhiwal police station in 2023.
The judge also ordered the convict, Ali Hassan, to pay Rs0.3m as compensation to the victim girl.
According tothe prosecution, in 2023 Ali Hassan had raped a girl in her house within the limits of Machhiwal police station in Vehari district.
On the victim’s complaint, the police registered an FIR (No 999/23) under section 376 of PPC against Ali Hassan and after his arrest, submitted the case challan in the court.
The court further ordered that in case of defaulting on payment of fine and/or compensation amount, the convict will have to undergo an additional six-month sentence.
Meanwhile, Dunyapur Additional Sessions Judge Muhammad Rizwan Arif handed down 10-year rigorous imprisonment to a man, along with a Rs80,000 fine in a narcotics case registered at Jallah Araian police station.
Police had registered an FIR (No.693) under section 9(1)-3 of the PPC on Nov 25, 2023 against the convict, Aslam, after recovering narcotics from his possession.
In case of defaulting on the fine payment, the convict must serve an additional imprisonment of six months, the court ordered.
PhD Programme
The 58th meeting of the Islamia University Bahawalpur (IUB)academic council on Friday approved the introduction of PhD in Islamic Studies in its two sub-campuses of Bahawalnagar and Rahim Yar Khan.
According to IUB press release, the meeting held under the chairmanship of Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Muhammad Kamran also approved the verification procedure for intermediate and matriculation certificates.
The meeting also approved grant of BA, BSc degrees to the students who have completed four semesters, or two-year education in the BS, BS Honours and other four-year degree programmes.
Inauguration
A Rescue 1122 centre was inaugurated at Lal Sohanra National Park on Friday.
Federal Parliamentary Secretary for Railways MNA Mian Usman Owaisi, along with Deputy Commissioner Dr Farhan Farooque, inaugurated the Rescue 1122 centre.
The new rescue station has been equipped with motorbike ambulances, patients transfer service and ambulance service for park visitors and the rural population in the area.
