4-stroke rickshaws banned in Quetta to reduce pollution
QUETTA: The Quetta Division commissioner, Muhammad Hamza Shafqaat, has announced a ban four-stroke rickshaws in the provincial capital. The date for the ban taking effect will be announced later.
Announcing the move on Friday, he said the decision has been taken in the light of growing noise and air pollution and increasing traffic in the city.
Under the new directive, he said, four-stroke petrol rickshaws will no longer be permitted to operate on any route in the city.
The commissioner also approved the launch of electric buses in the city. He said that modern and eco-friendly transport initiative is likely to significantly reduce air and noise pollution in the city and provide a cleaner environment for residents.
“The electric bus service is not only better for the environment but also offers an affordable, safe and convenient travel alternative for the public,” the commissioner said.
He hoped that citizens would view this initiative positively and extend their full cooperation and support to the government’s action.
