Karachi Reels draws big crowd at Urdu Conference
KARACHI: An exhibition titled Karachi Reels, which was inaugurated on Friday, continued on Saturday at the third day of the 17th edition of Urdu Conference.
The exhibition, curated by Farrukh Shahab and Umaina Khan, draws a large number of people on the first and second day.
Speaking to Dawn, Mr Shahab said, “Since the conference is celebrating Karachi, we were asked to curate a show on the films that were made in the city and the people associated with it such as those who made hand painted film billboards.
“We met Pervez Bhatti. He lives in Nigar Cinema. He agreed to work with us. He is the last man in Karachi who paints billboards. The exhibits that you see are made by him,” he said.
He said there are other contributors like Rehmat Ali as well. “As a result, you see images of films such as Arman and Mera Naam Hai Muhabbat.”
“We have between 40 and 50 exhibits,” he added.
