Unbeaten Pakistan squash team advance to playoffs

ISLAMABAD: Asim Khan, Nasir Iqbal and Noor Zaman led Pakistan’s unbeaten run in the pool matches of the WSF World Team Squash Champi­onship in Hong Kong, China, securing a spot in the playoffs on Tuesday.

According a statement issued by the Pakistan Squash Federation, Pak­istan topped Pool ‘H’ with six points, following a 3-0 victory over Italy on Tuesday.

The team’s winning streak has propelled them into the next stage of the championship.

Asim, 28, set the tone for Pakistan’s triumph, outmaneuvering Italy’s Omar Zaki Masoud 11-8, 11-4, 11-7 in a 33-minute battle.

The 30-year-old Nasir then delivered a crushing blow, annihilating Dani­ele De Bartolomeo 11-2, 11-1, 11-1 in a mere 19 minutes.

Noor sealed the deal, dispatching Lorenzo Staurengo 11-4, 11-7, 11-5 in 24 minutes.
