ANF foils attempt to smuggle 700kg of ‘ice’ to Malaysia

RAWALPINDI: The Anti-Narcotics Force (ANF) has foiled an atte­mpt to smuggle 700kg of methamphetamine (ice) to Malaysia by disguising it as an export of calcium carbonate, and arrested the accused.

According to an ANF spokesperson, the force’s officials, acting on intelligence, conducted a raid on a shipping container booked for Malaysia, at the South Asia Pakistan Terminal in Karachi.

During the search of 854 bags of calcium carbonate, 700kg of methamphetamine was discovered.

The ice had been concealed by mixing it with calcium carbonate in 28 bags, the spokesperson said.

The container was booked for Kuala Lumpur by a private Karachi-based company.

The accused, a Karachi resident whose name has been withheld, was arrested at the scene.

An investigation has been launched to identify and apprehend other individuals involved in the smuggling attempt.

The spokesperson reiterated ANF’s commitment to combating drug trafficking both domestically and internationally, emphasising that this operation underscores their resolve to fight drug smuggling.
