Governor concerned over imposition of tax on agriculture sector

TAXILA: Punjab Governor Sardar Saleem Haider Khan has expressed his concern over the imposition of tax on the agriculture sector by the provincial government and expressed his resolve to play his part to resolve issues faced by the farmers’ community.

He was addressing the public during an open court in Attock on Wednesday in which a large number of complainants from across the district gathered for redressal of their grievances.

Speaking on the occasion, Governor Saleem Haider Khan said the imposition of taxes on agricultural land by the Punjab government was a grave injustice.

He said farmers were already struggling as they neither received the desired price for wheat nor was it purchased by the government.

He further said due to lack of rainfall, farmers in Punjab were facing significant challenges, adding that he will send the demands of the farmers to the provincial government in writing.

The governor also highlighted that the public was distressed by inflation, taxes and unemployment. He assured that the PPP would continue to raise its voice for resolving public issues and reiterated his commitment to work towards eliminating the deprivation of people in underdeveloped areas.

Sardar Saleem emphasised that the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) was a party of the poor and marginalised and had always provided relief to farmers without imposing additional taxes on the agricultural sector.

He pointed out that addressing issues in only a few major cities could not resolve the grievances of the entire province and urged the Punjab government to take practical steps to address people’s problems.
