Missing traffic signals
ONE of the major reasons of traffic congestion in Karachi is malfunctioning or absent traffic signals in key areas of the city. As a resident and daily commuter, I have witnessed how the lack of traffic control measures leads to chaos, accidents and a general sense of disorder on the roads.
In several parts of Karachi, traffic signals are either out of order, or missing altogether, leaving drivers and pedestrians to navigate without clear guidance. As such, this not only creates confusion, but also increases the likelihood of road accidents.
The absence of functioning traffic signals in high-traffic areas, such as the Saddar, Numaish Chowrangi, Liaquatabad flyover, Gulshan-i-Iqbal and Korangi areas, particularly highlights the urgent need to address the issue.
The authorities concerned should prioritise the repair and installation of traffic signals at critical junctions across the city. Furthermore, regular maintenance and implementation of smart traffic systems could significantly improve the flow of traffic and reduce the chances of accidents. Karachi, being the largest city in the country, deserves a transportation system that is efficient, organised and safe. Eventually, by addressing the issue of traffic signals, the authorities can take an important step towards making Karachi’s roads safer for everyone.
