Govt asked to set up oil refinery in KP
PESHAWAR: Sarhad Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SCCI) has urged federal government to establishment an oil refinery in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and ensure smooth supply of gas and electricity to industries to encourage investors.
It has also demanded provision of all constitutional rights to people of the province on priority basis to promote business activities.
According to a statement, the demand was made by SCCI senior vice president Abdul Jalil Jan during a road show on KP’ potentials and investment opportunities in energy sector at a local hotel here on Thursday.
He said that there was a need for a favourable environment to attract investment in energy and other sectors in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
The event was attended by former presidents of SCCI Fuad Ishaq and Engineer Maqsood Anwar Pervez, member of chamber executive committee Hassan Zahideen and Rashid Iqbal Siddiqui, government officials, representatives of various organisations and others.
Mr Jalil Jan said that abundant natural resources were available in KP. He said that there were attractive opportunities for local as well as foreign investors to make investment in the province. He said that national and provincial economy would be stabilised by efficient utilisation of natural resources of the province.
He said that employment opportunities would be created by promotion of economic and trade activities in the region.
He urged federal and provincial governments to ensure uninterrupted supply of electricity and gas to flourish businesses and industries in the province.
Mr Jalil Jan presented proposals regarding development of energy sector and exploiting all natural resources of KP. He demanded establishment of an oil refinery in KP along with provision of all due constitutional rights to people of the province on its natural resources and supply of electricity and gas to industries.
He called for provision of a conducive environment for investors and simplifying the process for investment under a one-window operation initiative. He also demanded abolishment of double taxation and devising business-friendly policies to promote business and industries in the province.
