Peshawar mayor vows to restore alma mater’s past glory

PESHAWAR: City Mayor Haji Zubair Ali visited Peshawar Public School and College here on Friday, where he chaired the annual prize distribution and investiture ceremony, pledging to help his alma mater reclaim its past glory.

The event was arranged under the auspices of the school administration, with a large number of students, faculty members, and alumni in attendance.

Addressing the function, the mayor expressed pride in having been a student of the prestigious institution, which he said had produced talented individuals who were now serving in top positions in both the civil and armed forces.

He encouraged students to focus on their studies to face the challenges of the modern world, emphasising that success in any field was impossible without high-tech education in today’s global era of tough competition.

“Peshawar public school and college has been imparting quality education to students from lower-middle-class students hailing from the backward areas of Balochistan, GB, and the merged tribal districts at an affordable fee. Efforts will be made to uplift it and reclaim its academic excellence and financial strength,” Mr Ali asserted.

The mayor also pledged to install solar power, renovate the campus, as well as provide sports facilities and organise training workshops for both students and faculty to improve academic performance and overcome financial challenges.

Earlier, students and staff gave a warm welcome to the city mayor upon his arrival and praised his efforts for the development of the historic Peshawar metropolitan area and its residents at large.

Presenting the annual report, Principal Prof Iftikhar Ahmad Khan stated that the institution had taken several steps to improve its standing through a variety of academic and co-curricular activities, including trips to heritage sites and teacher training sessions.

Later, Haji Zubair Ali distributed commendation certificates and sashes to the winning students for their outstanding performances in co-curricular activities during the past year.
