SAHIWAL:The Science Exhibition 2024 at the Government Graduate College attracted 30 public sector colleges, 200 projects and AI-based scientific models, 500 students mostly girls along with their 50 college teachers.

The variety of subjects depicted in the scientific projects and models highlighted the diversity of creative ideas by public sector students, dominated by female students.

Despite limited financial and technical resources, students demonstrated enthusiasm and passion in shaping up, developing and explaining their ideas to each participant who inquired about their projects.

Dr.Sayada Andleeb, Director Colleges, Sahiwal division, distributed prizes among winners of science exhibition. She encouraged students to link their studies with AI-generated solutions for future.

The students presented ideas on various topics, including climate change, greenhouse effects, solid waste hazards, countering smog and vehicle pollution, carbon emissions, biochemical ecosystems, dialysis apparatus, smart garbage disposers controlled by mobile apps, rain detectors, self-balancing robots, infrared remote-controlled cars, face identification techniques, RFID-based door locks and the extraction of essential oils from plant leaves. The exhibition continued for seven hours.

Dr Mumtaz, Principal and host of the exhibition, told Dawn that the participation level from smaller girls’ colleges, such as those in 90/Morr, Malgadha, Renala Khurd, Gogera, Basirpur, Kameer, Chichawatni, Hujra Shah Muqeem and Arifwala was encouraging.

The college made special arrangements for displaying models and the enthusiasm suggested that more space and time would be needed for future exhibitions. The logistic and displaying arrangements were done by a six-member jury. A computer science teacher from Farid Town Women College suggested that the exhibition should run for two days to allow students more interaction and understanding of each other’s ideas and concepts. A six-member jury later selected four colleges for positions.

Dr. Muhammad Arshad, convenor, said that innovative projects were selected based on their ideas, content, and display, which were enhanced with technological apps and AI models.

Dr. Andleeb awarded prizes and shields to the winners of the first four positions.

The Government Graduate College, Sahiwal, Government Graduate College for Women, Farid Town, Government Graduate College for Women, Pakpattan, and Government Graduate College for Women, Okara. secured 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 4th positions, respectively.
