HYDERABAD: A state-of-the-art greenhouse developed by Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency at Sindh Agriculture University, Tandojam, was inaugurated the other day.

The greenhouse, for which the Turkish agency’s head for East and South Asia, Pacific and Latin America, Dursun Ali Yasacan, and SAU Vice Chancellor Dr Fateh Marri jointly cut the ribbon, aimed to enhance crop production and provide protection against plant diseases.

Dr Marri said at the gathering innovation was direly needed across all sectors in Pakistan due to the country’s growing population and limited resources.

He highlighted Turkiye’s significant cooperation in Pakistan’s development efforts and informed that under an agreement between Pakistan’s Higher Education Commission and Turkish embassy, about 5,000 students would pursue higher education in Turkiye in fields such as agriculture, technology and health.

He said the newly-established greenhouse developed with the agency’s assistance was equipped with advanced technology for seed development, plant protection and environment control tailored for seasonal requirements.

Dean of Crop Protection Faculty Dr Manzoor Abro, Prof Mohammad Ismail Kunbhar and others also spoke at the event, which was attended by faculty members, students, pro-VC SAU Umerkot Campus Dr Jan Mohammad Marri and dean of veterinary faculty Dr Ghayasuddin Shah Rashdi and others.

Earlier, the Turkish delegation toured the Crop Protection Faculty Museum.
