Sanam’s plea against inclusion in PCL rejected
LAHORE: The Lahore High Court on Tuesday sustained an objection raised by the registrar office on the petition by PTI social media activist Sanam Javed against the inclusion of her name in the Passport Control List (PCL), dismissing her plea.
The office had questioned the maintainability of the petition, pointing out that the petitioner had not availed the first remedy available in the law before approaching the court.
Justice Farooq Haider heard the petition as an objection case and the government’s counsel supported the registrar office’s view, saying the petitioner should have sought redressal from the appropriate authorities first.
The judge upheld the office’s objection and dismissed the petition.
The petition argued that several cases were registered against Sanam Javed on political grounds, which led to her name being added to the Passport Control List.
The petition asked the court to order removal of the petitioner’s name from the list.
BAIL: An anti-terrorism court on Tuesday dismissed post-arrest bail of a woman TikToker who claimed to be the mother of the alleged ‘rape victim’ of Punjab College.
The police alleged that the suspect recorded a video claiming that she was the mother of an alleged rape victim and uploaded it on her TikTok handle. It said the video went viral and added to the controversy over the alleged rape case.
Opposing the petition, a prosecutor argued that the trial was about to commence against the suspect, therefore, bail should not be granted at this stage.
Judge Irfan Haider dismissed the bail petition.
The suspect, who is a resident of Karachi with a permanent address in Multan, has been charged with making a false claim, inciting public sentiment against the government authorities and urging the people to violence.
