Extortionist threatens doctor

HYDERABAD: Prof Dr Imran Ali Shaikh, who heads Liaquat University of Medical and Health Sciences (LUMHS) department of medicines, on Thursday approached the police after receiving threats from extortionists.

In his application filed before the Hyderabad SSP Dr Farrukh Ali, Prof Shaikh said he received two messages on his mobile phone from an unknown person, who demanded extortion money and threatened that he and his family members would face dire consequences if the payment was not made.

In his two audio messages, the unknown person introduced himself as someone from the ‘D company’ and asked for Rs300,000 “initially”, Prof Shaikh said, adding that the suspect warned him not to try to be over-smart by telling anyone about these messages because he [the suspect] knew about his clinic and the route he [the professor] used to reach the clinic.
