Shandur hosts ice sports festival

CHITRAL: A history was made in Shandur pastures here on Saturday as day-long ice sports competitions were held here in which more 119 players took part.

Organised by Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Culture and Tourism Authority (KPCTA), the event was largely participated by the sports lovers from different areas of Upper Chitral as well as Ghizar area of Gilgit-Baltistan.

The main feature of the event was that 46 females from Chitral and Gilgit-Baltistan took part in the games, exhibiting their excellent performance while braving harsh weather.

In a most thrilling match of ice-hockey, GB team beat Chitral by three goals to two to clinch the Shandur Cup, which is first of its kind in the highest polo ground of the world.

The managing director of KPCTA, Tashfeen Haider, later gave away prizes to the players and announced to include the event in the calendar event.
