Inter-faith harmony urged at SHRC public hearing

SUKKUR: A public hearing held by the Sindh Human Rights Commission (SHRC) has suggested regularisation of district peace and interfaith harmony committees to ensure sustainable peace in Shikarpur.

Presided over the SHRC Chairman Iqbal Detho, the hearing was held in the deputy commissioner’s office and aimed at addressing impacts of tribal and sectarian conflicts on women and vulnerable communities.

Significant suggestions given by people included organising orientation peace sessions at the taluka level, conducting research on tribal conflicts at the university level and strengthening intelligence-sharing mechanisms among law-enforcement agencies.

Mr Detho underlined that the SHRC had been working tirelessly since 2013 to protect and promote human rights impartially, stressing that resolving such issues remained a core responsibility of the commission within the province.

In his address, the additional deputy commissioner-1 highlighted the far-reaching consequences of tribal clashes and sectarian violence, noting that such conflicts not only disrupted peace but also hindered economic growth, public health and educational progress in the district.
