HYDERABAD: Students assured of support for higher education
HYDERABAD, April 21: The Higher Education Commission (HEC) would provide all facilities to students seeking advanced education, said Sindh University Vice-chancellor Mazharul Haq Siddiqui.
Speaking at the annual software and hardware projects exhibition, he said the university had provided its students complete access to advanced equipment for education and training.
Students of the final year of BS (IT) displayed projects, including security system, telecommunication system to help smooth flow of traffic, Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) in business environment, security system for vehicles and also audio visual collection of the Sufis of the country. Eighty-five projects exhibited were part of research by 360 students of various disciplines.
Dr Asad Ali Shaikh, senior faculty member, who is the first PhD in Pakistan in information technology, highlighted the research projects prepared by the students.
APPEAL: The South Asia Lawyers’ Forum has reiterated its appeal to the prime ministers of Pakistan and India to open consulates in Mumbai and Karachi to facilitate travelling between the two countries.
In a joint statement issued here on Tuesday, forum’s Pakistan chapter chairman Riazuddin Qureshi advocate, vice-chairman Syed Abbas Ali Jafri advocate and Kamran Ahmed Cheeniwala advocate said the intending traveller had to suffer a lot of inconvenience.
BANGLE WORKERS: The All Hyderabad Bangle Welding Contractor Workers Union has thanked the commissioner of the Social Security Institution for directing provision of security cover to bangle industry workers.
In a statement issued here on Wednesday, union office-bearers Rehan Yousufzai, Apa Qamar Zia, Dr Saeeda Shaheen, Samina Ajmal Khan and Dr Rizwana Ansari said that the workers, including tens of thousands of women, were being exploited by the factory owners.
The poor workers were being deprived of all their legal and constitutional rights due to their non-registration under security cover.
They demanded that the bangle workers should also be provided other facilities under the labour laws as promised by the prime minister during his visit to Hyderabad.
