BATTAGRAM: The forest department distributed free saplings among residents on Wednesday as part of the spring plantation campaign.

A ceremony to this effect was held at the Social Welfare Complex in Chapargram.

Sub-divisional forest officer Iftikhar Ahmed, chairman of Chapargram neighbourhood council Shaukat Hayat and others were also present.

Mr Ahmed emphasised the importance of individual participation in planting saplings. He stressed that every individual must ensure that they planted at least one sapling during the spring plantation drive.

He highlighted the need for plantation in the district, particularly in the face of climate change challenges.

Councillor Shaukat Hayat stressed that it was essential for individuals to recognise the importance of plantation.

Meanwhile, the management of the District Headquarters Hospital, Battagram, has launched a cleanliness drive, which is part of a three-week-long campaign having commenced on Monday to ensure that all department offices, bazaars, markets, roads, streets, bus stands and public places are thoroughly cleaned and sanitised.

Deputy medical superintendent Dr Rahim said the DHQ Hospital underwent a meticulous cleaning and disinfection process, utilising anti-germ chemicals to provide a sterile environment for patients and their attendants. “This is crucial in preventing the spread of infections and ensuring the well-being of those seeking medical care.”

Similarly, officials at the district sports office participated in cleanliness activities, diligently dusting doors and windows, and removing dirt and debris from the office building.

Dosti Rehman, law enforcement officer of TMA, said the municipal body’s sanitary workers were actively engaged in cleaning public places, dumping waste and garbage, and cleaning drains and collection points.

He said TMA officials were also educating the public about the importance and benefits of maintaining cleanliness and hygiene. “This proactive approach is essential in fostering a sense of community responsibility and promoting a culture of cleanliness.”

TMA teams in Allai cleaned the bazaars, dumping waste and garbage, including rotten fruits and vegetables.

The campaign aims to present a clean and beautiful district to its residents and visitors.
