Protest against police raid, ‘torture’ of women

LAHORE: Scores of residents from Sanda staged a protest on Friday against what they claimed was an illegal police raid at a house, during which male officers allegedly thrashed and tortured women.

Locals accused the police of violating privacy by forcefully entering the house without female officials. When questioned about the absence of lady police, the male officials allegedly slapped and assaulted the women and used abusive language. An elderly man was also reportedly tortured and sustained injuries.

Hearing the commotion, local residents and relatives rushed to the scene to protect the family.

The police, however, claimed they conducted the raid based on information about the presence of kites.

The protesters raised slogans against the police and demanded an impartial inquiry to hold the responsible officers accountable for alleged misconduct.
