Mine owners want their input included in legislation

PESHAWAR: Frontier Mines Owners Association on Tuesday asked the provincial government to not pass National Mineral Harmonisation Framework legislation without the input and addressing the reservations of mines department and owners.

Addressing a press conference at Peshawar Press Club, president of the association Sher Bandi Marwat and other office-bearers expressed their reservations over the proposed framework. They said that before legislating on the subject, reservations of mines department as well as owners should be addressed and their input should be included in the legislation.

They said that federal government shared a draft framework with chief secretaries and it was tantamount to end the autonomy of provinces. They said that the harmonisation framework should incorporate the suggestions of the all provinces as well as other stakeholders and not to put them into dustbin.
