DACCA: Shortly after his arrival here yesterday [March 18] the Prime Minister of Pakistan, Mr Liaquat Ali Khan, was closeted with the East Pakistan Cabinet for about 45 minutes. It is understood that discussions mainly centred round the problem of rehabilitation of the daily increasing number of refugees crossing over into East Pakistan from Bharat. Also present at the discussions were the Chief Secretary and the Relief Commissioner.

Mr Liaquat Ali Khan last night received a deputation of members of the minority community led by Mr B.K. Das, Leader of the Opposition in the East Pakistan Assembly. Mr Das later told the APP that “the Prime Minister was very sympathetic towards the minorities in East Pakistan”. It appears, he said, that the Prime Minister “has … expressed his anxious willingness to help the minorities”.

It is understood that relief measures for the affected members of the minority community in East Pakistan figured prominently during the discussions. The Prime Minister is understood to have asked the deputationists to give him concrete suggestions in this connection. — News agencies
