LAHORE: The Punjab home department says some 469 inmates were released from jails on Eidul Fitr, including 183 released after their sentences were commuted by the president.

A home department spokesman said the president commuted six-month imprisonment of a total of 1,789 inmates. He said some 281 inmates, who had completed their jail terms but did not pay a fine, were released after payment of their fine by philanthropists.

As many as five inmates were released on the basis of completing education and showing good conduct.

The spokesman urged the philanthropists to donate in the account of Punjab Prison Foundation for the release of inmates.
