In pictures: Christians around the world celebrate Easter Sunday

Christians from all over the world are celebrating Easter today, which is being observed on the same day by both catholic and orthodox Christians this year.

Easter, an important event in Christianity, marks the resurrection of Jesus Christ after his crucifixion, according to Christian Beliefs.

Revered by Catholics around the world, the head of the Catholic Church, Pope Francis, who has been recovering from a severe bout of pneumonia, made an appearance at the Vatican City’s Easter Sunday Mass to the joy of thousands of worshippers, Reuters reported.

In his Easter message, read by an aide, the pope reiterated his support for a ceasefire in Gaza.

Dawn.com takes a look at how the occasion was observed by Christians around the world — from South Asia and the Middle East to Europe and the Americas.
