Boy among seven killed in Kashmir

SRINAGAR, Feb 5: Seven people, including a three year-old boy, were killed in violence in occupied Kashmir, where the strike on Tuesday disrupted life in the region’s main city.

The strike, to mark Pakistan’s Kashmir Solidarity Day, closed down shops, businesses and banks in Srinagar.

Two suspected Kashmiris were killed in a gunbattle with security forces in northern Kupwara district overnight, a police spokesman said.

A three-year-old Muslim boy who was injured during the fighting died in hospital later on Tuesday.

Two more Kashmiris were killed near Bandipora town, 60 kilometers north of Srinagar.

Another two people died in ‘encounters’ elsewhere in occupied Kashmir.—AFP
