Central Asia Handball Women Trophy opens in Faisalabad
TOBA TEK SINGH: The inauguration ceremony of the Central Asia Handball Women Trophy was held at Government College University Faisalabad (GCUF) on Tuesday.
The event features U-17 and U-19 women’s teams from Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Mongolia and Pakistan.
Higher Education Commission (HEC) chairman Dr Mukhtar Ahmad was the chief guest, while GCUF Vice Chancellor Dr Rauf-i-Azam was the guest of honour. Dr Ahmad spoke about the importance of sports in youth development, while Dr Azam said GCUF was committed to promoting youth engagement, international collaboration and sporting excellence.
He said the university was proud to host such events that promote peace and cultural exchange. The tournament will continue till April 26.
SCHOOL MEAL: Pakistan-Korea Nutrition Centre (PKNC) at the University of Agriculture of Faisalabad has begun serving fortified meals for 30 days to Laboratory School students under its Chair Nutrition and Public Health programme.
According to a press release issued on Tuesday, the initiative includes pre-meal biochemical assessments of students, followed by daily fortified meals.
Dean Faculty of Food Nutrition and Home Sciences Dr Imran Pasha said the meal programme would improve children’s health.
E-KHIDMAT: A proclaimed offender was arrested in dramatic fashion at Faisalabad’s E-Khidmat Markaz on Tuesday.
In Charge Syed Muneeb Geelani said Saifur Rehman, wanted in an attempt to murder case registered three years ago by Roshanwala police, had disappeared after the FIR. On Tuesday, he showed up at the Markaz to get a police character certificate. When his data was entered into the system, it showed his PO status. Police arrested him and later handed him over to Roshanwala police.
RAPE: Jhang Satellite Town police arrested a man on Tuesday for repeatedly raping his 13-year-old daughter.
The suspect, of Mouza Lak Badhar was arrested after his brother lodged an FIR under Section 376 of the Pakistan Penal Code. He alleged that the suspect had threatened to kill his daughter if she disclosed the abuse.
LABOURER DIES: A labourer died after falling from a crane in a steel factory near the Nishatabad locality on Chak Jhumra Road, Faisalabad on Tuesday.
Reports said Ehtisham was working on the crane when he slipped and was critically injured. He was rushed to Allied Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.
FIA: Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) cybercrime wing raided Chak 108/15L in Mianchannu tehsil of Khanewal on Tuesday and arrested a man involved in blackmailing women.
Sources said Muhammad Waqas made nude videos of women by filming them through ventilating windows of their washrooms and used those videos to blackmail them.
