Squash: Willstrop ends Pakistan’s interest

KARACHI, May 5: Pakistan's number one, Shahid Zaman failed to sail further in the prestigious Liverpool Open squash championship when he was quashed by second seed Englishman James Willstrop in the second round on Thursday night at Liverpool.

According to the details of US$78500 event, Shahid who defeated Joy Barrington of England in the first round was brought down to earth by Willstrop in 48-minutes with scores of 11-4, 11-5, 8-11, 11-4.

After winning the first two games 11-4, 11-5, Willstrop dropped the third game to Shahid 8-11 before winning the fourth one with 11-4 to cruise into the last eight-stage.

With Shahid's departure, Pakistan's interest in the coveted event ends as he was the only countryman left in the event.

Meanwhile, Finland's Olli Tuominen produced the first upset in two days of the tournament when he despatched Scotland's sixth seed John White.
