Karate camp in full swing

PESHAWAR, May 10: National karate camp for the forthcoming 10th SAF Games is in full swing at PSB Coaching Centre under two Iranian coaches.

The Games will be held in Sri Lanka in August.

Former world champions Mehdi Khandan and Tahir Asghar Abadi, hailing from Iran, are imparting training to 20 players, an official of Pakistan Karate Federation said on Wednesday.

Pakistani coach Zahoor Ahmed is assisting the Iranian coaches in the camp which will continue till June 1.

The PKF official said players like Baz Mohammad, Kashif and Majid Ali were also included in the camp to get advantage from the foreign coaches.

Some other players included Shamsus Zaman, Shaukat Ali, Sodagar Masih, Tariq Mehmood and Asif Nawaz.

He said Pakistani players won seven gold, one silver and one bronze medal in the 9th SAF Games and grabbed first position.

The official said National Ranking Karate Championship would be held in Peshawar from May 16 in which teams like Wapda, Army, Railways, Police, Punjab, Sindh, Balochistan and NWFP would take part.—APP
