NAWABSHAH: Demand for water release into canal

NAWABSHAH, May 19: Farmers of the Setharki water channel of the Nusrat irrigation division on Thursday called upon the Sindh chief minister and the irrigation minister to take notice of non-availability of water in the area.

They demanded that officials involved in corruption should be suspended.

Speaking at a press conference at the press club, Usman Dahri, Obhari Sawri UC nazim Ali Mohammad Shah, Rao Shahid, Raja Riaz Kiyani and Shafat Arain said that about 35,000 acre land was rendered barren due to non-availability of water.

They said that the Setharki channel was one of the longest waterways of Sindh with 125 RDs.

They said that a few years back it was excluded from the rotation programme but the officials again included it in the programme.

They said that they tried to approach the executive engineer of the Nusrat irrigation division several times but he was not available in office.

They said that when a grower Allah Rakhio went to his office, the executive engineer refused to listen the problem and handed him over to police.
