Nawaz asks people to unite against Musharraf
LAHORE, May 19: PML-N leader Nawaz Sharif urged the nation on Friday to get united against Gen Musharraf. In a brief telephonic address to party workers at a meeting in the city on Friday night, he said he would soon be returning to Pakistan, and nobody would be able to stop him. He said on his return he would give the nation the good news of restoration of democracy.
Former president Rafiq Tarar was the chief guest at the meeting presided over by Punjab PML-N president Zulfikar Khosa.
Mr Sharif said those responsible for sabotaging the democratic process would be held accountable. PML-N president Shahbaz Sharif assailed the critics of the Charter of Democracy, saying it had been worked out for the welfare of the people. The implementation of the CoD, he said, would solve many a problem of the country.
He criticized those buying bullet-proof vehicles for themselves at a time when people did not have even the basic facilities.
Referring to the allegation that former prime minister Nawaz Sharif was responsible for an attack on the Supreme Court, he said it was baseless. “Some power-hungry people were behind it,” he said, in an obvious reference to some bigwigs of the present setup.
He pointed out that two inquiries on the subject had also established that the Sharif government was not responsible for the attack. “We are not even remotely linked to this incident. Mr Sharif has tremendous respect for the judiciary”.
Rafiq Tarar, Zulfikar Khosa, Tehmina Daultana, Maimoona Hashmi, Zaeem Qadri, Sardar Ayyaz Sadiq and many other party leaders also addressed.
