LARKANA, May 23: The district council on Tuesday expressed concern over the deteriorating law and order in the district and called for urgent measures to address the issue. Taking rostrum, Awam Dost Panel member Barkat Shaikh pointed towards the law and order situation in the district where he said motorcycle snatchings and killings had become a routine.

Apa Khursheed Talat Khatyan, Ms Nasiban Channa, Ali Gohar Bhatti, Noorul Haq Dhamraho, Khair Mohammed Shaikh and Iqbal Soomro supported the move.

They said the battered law and order situation had sent a wave of insecurity to traders.

Referring to rape of a three-year-old Ambreen, they alleged that police was taking it very lightly.

They said the road between Larkana and Ratodero had become insecure and the DPO linked increase in crimes to ‘shortage’ of staff.

Convener Munawwar Ali Abro, who presided over the session, said matter would be conveyed to the Inspector General of Police for remedial steps.

A pandemonium was created in the session when Babu Serwar Siyal of the KPP shouted at the convener that he (convener) had no right to preside over the session, as he had lost the confidence of the council. Later, the KPP members boycotted the proceedings.

Badar Abbasi pointed towards the lack of quorum after the KPP members walked out of the hall, but the convener ignored it. Meanwhile, the ADP and SNF-backed members took the item of development on agenda to discuss.

Nisar Bhutto, Abdul Qadir Sangi, Fayyaz Bhutto and others alleged that the district nazim had unilaterally spent Rs9,70,00,000 sanctioned by the Sindh chief minister for development works in the district.

Tenders for the development work had been called to benefit a particular group, they alleged.

They urged the district nazim to take into confidence union council nazims prior to start development schemes.

DEMAND: The Sorath Saqafati Sangat demanded that the Sindh government should take over all archaeological sites in the province for better protection.
