HYDERABAD: Gas employees threaten protest suicide
HYDERABAD, May 28: Members of the Sui Southern Gas Company Employees Action Committee on Sunday said that they would commit self-immolation outside the Hyderabad Press Club on May 30 and the Karachi Press Club on May 31 in protest against termination of their services by the SSGC authorities.
In a statement issued here, the chairman of the action committee for Sindh and Balochistan said that the employees had not been reinstated by the company despite orders of the Supreme Court.
He said that the employees had been reinstated by the full bench of the Supreme Court but the company had refused to obey the orders.
He said that their families had been starving for years.
LARKANA: The Sui gas employees’ action committee has called upon the chief justice of the Supreme Court to enforce the decision of the larger bench of the apex court reinstating them in jobs.
Members of the action committee observed a hunger strike outside the press club in protest against the non-implementation of the court decision.
Action committee leader Latif Sangi said that they were facing tremendous mental and financial pressure due to joblessness.
He said that they had failed to find any other jobs to feed their families.
He said that on June 1, ten employees would resort to self-immolation outside the Karachi Press Club.
He said that they would continue the protest till the decision of the court was enforced.
Those observed hunger strike are: Taufeeq Shaikh, Siraj Tunio, Assadullah Lahori, Ashfaque Hulio, Ghu-lam Mustafa Bhutto, Zahid Ali Shah and Imam Bakhsh.
