Shoaib Akhtar not to attend practice session

LAHORE, May 31: Pakistan Cricket Board announced on Wednesday that fast bowler Shoaib Akhtar was not fully fit and would not attend practice session for one week.

“The result of the scans (ankle) taken on Tuesday has shown swelling in his ankle and as a precautionary measure Shoaib is stopped from taking weight-bearing exercises for a week,” a PCB press release stated on Wednesday.

“Meanwhile, Shoaib will continue to train with the squad in gymnasium and swimming pool,” the press release added.

PCB’s medical commission comprising Owais, Dr Waqar Farooqi, Zia Farooqi, Abdul Wajid and Meesaq Rizvi is to meet on Thursday to examine medical reports of the fast bowler and to look at the physical fitness of all-rounder Shoaib Malik, who’s elbow had been operated in South Africa.

Interestingly, both the players had started training without being cleared by the commission.
