HYDERABAD: Minister opens prepaid power meters in Hyderabad

HYDERABAD, June 26: Federal Minister for Water and Power Liaquat Ali Jatoi on Monday inaugurated prepaid electricity meters installed by Hesco on experimental basis in the cantonment area.

Speaking on the occasion, he said that credit for introducing prepaid meters should go to Hesco chief executive Maqbool Ahmed Khwaja.

He said that with the installation of prepaid meters, all genuine complaints of consumers would be automatically removed and they would not have to stand in queues outside banks to deposit their bills.

He said that Hesco would receive advance payment for power consumption because consumers would have to purchase smart cards for using electricity.

He said that in the federal budget, Rs38 billion had been allocated for Wapda development schemes and that 23 new grid stations would be constructed during the next fiscal year.
