HYDERABAD: Scholarships for needy students

HYDERABAD, July 5: The Sindh University has decided to award scholarships to needy meritorious students from the academic session of 2007.

The Higher Education Commission (HEC) has allocated funds for scholarships under the Financial Support for Meritorious Needy Students.

A high-level meeting, presided over by university vice-chancellor Mazharul Haq Siddiqui, was held here on Tuesday to set parameters for selection of deserving students.

The vice-chancellor emphasized transparency for selecting candidates for the award.

Dr M. Saleem Chandio, professor and focal person, University of Sindh, briefed the meeting on details of scholarships.

Under the financial support to poor students, the scholarship will cover all expenses, including tuition fee, admission fee, library fee, examination fee while Rs38,000 per annum stipend will also be given to qualifying students for each year up to completion of the degree programme.

Deserving students will be selected as per the outlines fixed by the HEC through the Institutional Scholarship Award Committee (ISAC) headed by the university vice-chancellor.
