Munir Dar blasts hockey team, PHF for poor show
LAHORE, July 26: Former hockey Olympian Munir Dar lashed out at the national team, its management and the Pakistan Hockey Federation for showing pathetic performance against Holland in the Champions Trophy.
Pakistan lost the game 9-2 against the European country on Tuesday.
They had also lost the opener to Australia 3-2 and could manage to earn one point after drawing 3-3 against Germany in their second match.
Talking to Dawn, Munir Dar said the team had been performing miserably for past six years and their future was dark if similar decisions on ad hoc basis continued.
No other Pakistani player except three of four claimed themselves as international players, Dar said.
He admitted that Roelant Oltman, the Dutch coach, took advantage from weak points of the Pakistani players which he noticed during coaching of the Pakistan team for one year.
The former Olympian also criticised Pakistan coach Asif Bajwa for his flawed strategy.
He said Pakistan conceded three goals due to Sohail Abbas’ faults. Dar regarded him a good penalty-corner hitter but not defender.
