Floods destroy trees

GILGIT, Aug 4: Flash floods triggered by torrential rains destroyed thousands of fruit and other trees in central Hunza, 100km north of Gilgit, on Thursday night.

The floods also destroyed almost all water channels in the area, leaving residents without water.

Local union council members Alamgir Hussain, Altaf Hussain and Yaqut said that given the large-scale destruction caused by the floods, the region should be declared a calamity-hit area.
