HYDERABAD: Honour for LUMHS
HYDERABAD, Aug 9: The vice-chancellor of the Liaquat University of Medical and Health Sciences (LUMHS), Jamshoro, Prof Jam Mohammad Memon said on Wednesday that the International Institute of Health Care Students (IIHS) had listed LUMHS among Asia’s top ten medical universities.
He said that the LUMHS had signed a memorandum of understanding with UK’s Nottingham and Birmingham and University of College Hospital London under which the LUMHS would send 20 candidates for PhD and in the first phase five would be sent for PhD for three years.
Mr Memon said while presiding over a review meeting of the LUMHS academic and development sector on Tuesday that Central Development Working Party (CDWP), Islamabad, had given approval to Rs460 million mega projects for the upgradation of teaching laboratories and renovation of university buildings.
He said that the amount would be used to construct Dental Institute and Toxicology Laboratory along with post-mortem and cold storage for preserving dead bodies.
The HEC had also approved the project for the construction of a central library with 500 seating capacity, he said.
Registrar Prof Afzal Memon, Professor Rafique Soomro, Faculty of Community Medicine Dean Prof Rafique Ahmed Memon, Institute of Dentistry Dean Prof Shaheen Shah, Faculty of Basic Medical Sciences Dean Dr Naeem Qureshi and others attended the meeting.
