Ahsan tames Hassan in Sindh tennis

KARACHI, Aug 10: Ahsan Ali fought his way into the men’s singles second round when he overcame a stubborn Hassan Ali in three sets of the Sindh Ranking tennis tournament at the DHA Sunset Club on Thursday.

After conceding the opener 5-7, Ahsan staged a comeback to claim the following two sets 6-2, 6-1 in the two hour battle.

The tournament which was interrupted due to rains resumed after a break of three days.

Seeded players Nomi Qamar, Yasir Khan and Danish Ahmed who got a first round bye will make their appearance Friday.

Sheryar Ahmed moved into the boys U-11 singles final beating Afzal Ali 8-1.

Upcoming Hasham Khan was the pick of the day as he ended with a double success.

After downing Ali Imran straight 6-0, 6-0 to propel into juniors U-17 second round, he maintained the same tempo by owercoming Talha Masood 8-0.

Men’s singles (first round): Ahsan Ali bt Hassan Ali 5-7, 6-2, 6-1; Vinod Das bt Mustafa Jamal 6-2, 6-1; Ali Kidwai bt Salman Ahmed 6-1, 6-1; Farhan w/o Saad bin Arif.

Juniors U-17 singles (first round): Hasham Khan bt S. Ali Imran 6-0, 6-0.

Boys U-15 singles (preliminary round): S. Zuhair Raza bt Mohammad Ahmed 8-0; Azim Adamjee bt Isfand Yar 8-6; Manoj bt M. Usman Sheikh 8-3; Abdul Qadir bt Saad Noor Soomar 8-1; Kashif bt Taha Sereng 8-0; Mustafa Zaidi bt Muneeb Khan 3-0 (retd); Mustafa Jamali bt Denesh 8-0; Hasham Khan bt Talha Masood 8-0.

Boys U-11 singles (quarterfinal): Imran Mooraj bt Murad Khan 8-3.

(Semifinal): Sheryar Ahmed bt Afzal Ali 8-1.

Friday’s fixtures: Boys U-13 (preliminary round) 9am; men’s singles (second round) 10am.
