HYDERABAD, Aug 15: Despit inclement weather and accumulation of rainwater everywhere, Independence Day was observed in most parts of Sindh with traditional zeal and fervour.

In Hyderabad, celebrations started with the hoisting of national flag at the district nazim secretariat by Kanwar Naveed Jamil.

The nazim said that Pakistan had come into being due to unparalleled leadership of Quaid-i-Azam and sacrifice of four million lives.

He said that it was now the duty of each and every Pakistani to work for the unity, integrity and solidarity of Pakistan.

All officials of the district government, school children, leaders of business community and elite of the town were present on the occasion.

He said that Pakistan was a gift from God and we must consider fortunate that we were born in a free Muslim country.

The school children presented national songs and tableaux.

Kanwar Naveed Jamil announced Rs25,000 for special children, who had taken part in various functions and Rs10,000 for school children.

Addressing the Hindu community at a function organized by the Hindu Panchayat at a local hotel Monday night, Kanwar Naveed Jamil said that no one should doubt the loyalty of Pakistani Hindus, who were working for the glory of Pakistan in all walks of life.

He said that the minorities in Pakistan enjoyed full religious freedom as guaranteed by Islam.

SAU: The Sindh Agriculture University organised a function at its main auditorium to celebrate Independence Day.

Vice-chancellor Dr Bashir Shaikh said that the August 14 was the day of self-accountability and every one should peep into inner recesses of his soul as to what he had done for Pakistan.

LUMHS: The vice-chancellor of the Liaquat University of Medical and Health Sciences after hoisting national flag, inaugurated 11 development projects of the university.

SUKKUR: The Independence Day was celebrated in Sukkur district with enthusiasm and fervour.

The day began with special prayers in all mosques and places of worship for the solidarity and unity of the country.

The main event of flag hoisting ceremony was held at Jinnah Municipal Stadium where the district nazim of Sukkur, Syed Nasir Hussain Shah hoisted the national flag.

The school children presented national songs, shows and tableau’s on the occasion.

Speaking on the occasion, the district nazim said that our forefathers achieved a separate homeland for Muslims after rendering great sacrifices and freed themselves from Hindu and British domination under the dynamic leadership of Quaid-i-Azam.

He advised the youngsters to work hard with sincerity for the well being of the country and announced Rs 5000 for each participating schools and Rs 10000 for the workers of taluka municipal administration (TMA) of Sukkur in the main function.

MITHI: Independence Day was commemorated with due fervour and enthusiasm.

The main function was held at the ground of the main Government Boys High School where district nazim Arbab Anwar was chief guest at flag-hoisting ceremony.

NAWABSHAH: The Independence Day started with special prayers in mosques for prosperity of the country.

District Nazim Faryal Talpur hoisted national flag at district government secretariat after which she led a rally towards the press club.
