157 deportees brought to Gujranwala
GUJRANWALA, Aug 26: The Gujranwala circle of FIA on Saturday brought over 157 youths from Quetta who were deported by Turkish and Iranian governments. Reports said the youths, belonging to Gujranwala division, had been sent to Greece by human smugglers through their sub-agents in Iran and Turkey. The Iran-Turkey border security arrested them when they were trying to enter Greece and later deported them to Pakistan through Iran-Quetta border.
An FIA team, led by assistant-director Aqeel Qureshi, went to Quetta and arrested them. Officials were interrogating the deportees about their agents and sub-agents.
The deportees would be sent to the central jail on judicial remand.
Earlier, the FIA had arrested about 300 youths who were deported by Greece, Spain and other foreign countries.
PRICE HIKE: The district price control committees have almost failed to control price hike as butchers and shopkeepers are allegedly involved in overcharging.
A survey conducted by this correspondent on Saturday showed that butchers were selling beef at Rs120 to 140 per kg against the government fixed price of Rs80 and mutton at Rs240 instead of Rs200 per kg. Chicken was available for Rs140 to Rs150 per kg instead of Rs80.
Similarly, traders were overcharging other essential commodities, including wheat flour, rice and cereals.
The district administration had issued prices of daily-use items a few days ago and ordered the shopkeepers to display rate lists at their shops. The market committees were asked to implement the government’s fixed prices, but the respective agencies failed to control the inflation.
