Pakistan, Turkey to project true image of Islam

ISTANBUL, Sept 3: Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz called on Turkish Prime Minster Recep Tayyip Erdogan here on Sunday and the two leaders discussed bilateral issues, cooperation in different fields, including trade and ways to further cement ties between the two countries.

Both the leaders also discussed the situation in Lebanon, Palestine and other international issues.

Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz and his Turkish counterpart agreed to enhance cooperation to project the true image of Islam in the world.

The Turkish prime minister told reporters after the meeting that Pakistan and Turkey had unanimity of views on various international issues and hoped that Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz’s visit would strengthen the relations between the two countries.

Later, Prime Minister Aziz held meetings with Secretary General of the Organisation of Islamic Conference (OIC) Dr Kemaleddin Ihsan Oglu and Speaker of Turkish parliament Bulent Arinc.

Earlier, the prime minister was received by Mayor of Istanbul Kadir Kopbash, Governor of Istanbul Muammer Guler and Pakistan’s Ambassador to Turkey Lieutenant General (retd) Iftikhar Hussain Shah.

BEIRUT: Prime Minister Aziz is scheduled to arrive here on Monday on a day-long visit.

Prime Minister Aziz will meet his counterpart Fuad Siniora and Speaker of Lebanese Parliament Nabih Berri besides calling on Lebanese President Emile Lahoud.

The prime minister is also likely to discuss Pakistan’s role in Lebanon’s reconstruction.—APP
